Series 26 was the first to be broadcast in August from the series start and in high definition from episode 17 onwards which was also the first episode filmed at Cardiff. BBC One advertised the new year episodes as the "new series" but this was in fact incorrect, and was a continuation from series 26, and not the start of series 27. It sees another reduction in episodes, the second lowest since 2003 with a total of 42. September 2011 was the 25th anniversary of the show. In a Casualty first, Series 26 contains the first ever three-part story centred on gang violence on the Farmead Estate. The series will end with a riot storyline, which was originally conceived prior to the London Riots in August 2011 but these events prompted the team to think of a new direction in which to take the story. The series was meant to end on 21 July 2012, but due to reorganisation of the schedules due to extended coverage of the 2012 Wimbledon Championships on June 30, the finale has been moved back a day to Sunday 22 July 2012 resulting in the last two-part episode being broadcast on Saturday and Sunday (as has happened with two-parters in the past).. }
