Margerison was a science correspondent for The Sunday Times, which he joined in 1961.He partnered with David Frost to form what became London Weekend Television, a new ITV contractor from August 1968. Margerison became London Weekend Television's first deputy managing director, both becoming chairman and chief executive of the channel within two years. He left the company in 1971. He served as the chairman of Computer Technology Ltd. from 1971 to 1975.Margerison died on February 25, 2014, at the age of 90. He was survived by his partner, journalist Marjorie Wallace with whom he lived with since the 1970s, and their daughter, Sophia Margerison; and two sons, Peter and Angus, from his marriage to his first wife, Pamela Tilbrook.. }
