In 1988-1990, the mall enclosed and double-decked. In 1994, the mall suffered serious damage from the Northridge earthquake, but was renovated. In 1996, both stores were closed and renamed: Bullock's turned into Macy's and The Broadway became Bloomingdale's--the result of Federated Department Stores buying out Carter Hawley Hale Stores, parent company of The Broadway, that same year.
