They were originally formed in 1888 as Wigtown FC, but changed their name to Wigtown & Bladnoch FC in 1919. Bladnoch is a small village barely a mile from Wigtown, but was the base for two of the largest employers in the area. Bladnoch Distillery was founded in 1817 by the McLelland brothers as the southern-most distillery in Scotland, and Bladnoch Creamery, founded in 1899 by the Scottish Co-operative Wholesale Society.They play their home matches at Trammondford Park, which has room for 1,500 spectators. The club motto is "moving forward – to achieve our goals".They have competed in the South of Scotland Football League since the league reformed in 1946, although they resigned for in seasons 1962-63 and 1972-73 due to financial problems. They have won the league on three occasions. Wigtown & Bladnoch have also appeared in the Scottish Cup on ten occasions, but their only moment of glory came in January 1952, when they beat Scottish Football League side Montrose 2-1 at Links Park, Montrose. In the second round, they were drawn at home to Dundee, but lost 1-7, although Dundee did go on to play Motherwell in the final that season.. }
