Prior to being appointed President, Greiner served in other instructional and leadership capacities in the University at Buffalo Law School, and in UB's administration. Greiner was educated at both Yale University and Wesleyan University, earning degrees in economics and law, including a doctorate in law from Yale. Under Greiner's leadership as UB President, research, educational, sports, arts, and student living complexes were constructed and expanded. While at UB, Greiner was also the recipient of honors and awards. As an author, Greiner co-wrote two books. Retiring from UB in 2009, Greiner left a legacy, and helped to achieve increased international recognition for UB. He was also active in his community. Greiner died on December 19, 2009, related to complications he experienced from heart surgery.. }
