He was born at Ticehurst, Sussex.Malden was educated at Haileybury and Imperial Service College, where he played cricket for the college team from 1914–17. His first-class debut for Sussex came against Leicestershire in the 1920 County Championship, scoring a duck in his only innings of the match. He made nine further first-class appearances in that season, scoring 204 runs in his debut season at an average of 14.57 and a high score of 46. In the following season, Malden played his first first-class match of the season for Cambridge University (where he also undertook his studies) against the British Army, as well as making eleven appearances for Sussex, scoring 353 runs in the season at an average of 19.61. He scored what would be his only first-class century in this season for Sussex against Warwickshire in the County Championship. He made two further appearances for Sussex in the 1922 County Championship against Gloucestershire and Worcestershire, after which he made no further appearances for the county.He died at Newbury, Berkshire on 23 November 1963.
