Upon completion it will be the largest wind farm in the Netherlands. Owner-operators are members of the Koepel Windenergie Noordoostpolder, a partnership of more than 100 agricultural entrepreneurs from the North East Polder and energy company RWE/Essent.The Netherlands government gave its final approval for the project on 6 January 2011. The following year (8 February 2012), a ruling by the Council of State on an appeal brought before them by opponents of the wind park confirmed the government decision. Construction of access roads began in May 2012, and power grid operator TenneT began in June 2012 with expansion of the 110kV transport network in order to connect the wind farm.The wind farm will be located along the dikes of the IJsselmeer on the western side of the North East Polder. A total of 86 wind turbines will be erected; 48 will be sited near-shore (Siemens, 3.6 MW) and 38 onshore (Enercon E-126, 7.58 MW).The wind farm will produce 1.4 TWh of electricity annually, enough to provide electricity to over 400,000 households. This is roughly the number of households in the two adjacent provinces of Flevoland and Friesland.There are currently 50 wind turbines along the Westermeerdijk and 5 wind turbines on and near the Zuidermeerdijk. The new wind farm will generate significantly more energy than the current wind farm, thanks to improved wind turbine technology. One new onshore wind turbine provides as much electricity as the current 50 wind turbines put together. It is planned to dismantle the existing wind turbines once the new farm is constructed.[citation needed]An estimated total investment of about €1 billion is needed for the construction of the wind farm. Residents of North East Polder, Urk, and Lemsterland can also financially participate in a section of the wind farm through an equity participation scheme. The project will provide a sustainable boost to the local economy.[citation needed]The construction of the wind farm will provide employment opportunities. During the construction phase, around 300 new jobs will become available. Once it has been completed, the wind farm will provide about 100 permanent jobs.. }
