In 1848 it served in the Second Sikh War in Punjab. It was renamed in 1850 as the 2nd Bengal (European) Fusiliers, and served in the Indian Mutiny of 1857. As with all other "European" units of the Company, they were placed under the command of the Crown in 1858, and formally moved into the British Army in 1862, ranked as the 104th Regiment of Foot (Bengal Fusiliers). The officers of this regiment were drawn from a number of Indian regiments, both majors and six of the twelve captains having served with the 2nd Bengal (European) Fusiliers. As part of the Childers Reforms in 1881, the regiment was amalgamated with the 101st Regiment of Foot (Royal Bengal Fusiliers) to form The Royal Munster Fusiliers.".
