He was knighted on 20 May 1625.In April 1640, Griffin was elected Member of Parliament for Downton in the Short Parliament. He was re-elected MP for Downton in the Long Parliament and sat until he was disabled on 5 February 1644.Following the Restoration, Griffin was Treasurer of the Chamber from 1660 to 1679.Griffin is said to have died in 1681 at an advanced age.".
