Joseph Gonzales was chosen sheriff of the village in 1886. In 1887, the Gonzáles´s son, Tee-Joe Gonzales, opened a small shop there and established a post office. The post office was known as the Gonzales Post Office. By this reason, a few years later the Railroad Commission decided change the name of area from Edenborn to Gonzales to match the post office name. For this, ordered the local railroad to change it. Jose Gonzales subdivided the village in 1906. José Gonzáles was first mayor of village in 1922, year in that was officially become in a village, and is considered the better mayor of his history. However, later the villagers had that fight for keep the name of "Gonzales" in the village, already that the railroad company, by drawing in the railway line, wanted to rename to of Edenborn. The battle lasted many years until in 1910 won the villagers and the town retained the old name.The Tee Joe Gonzales Museum of Louisiana was founded in his honor.".
