- Last_of_the_Summer_Wine_(series_1) abstract "Last of the Summer Wine's first series originally aired on BBC1 between 20 November 1973 and 29 December 1973. All episodes from this series were written by Roy Clarke and produced and directed by James Gilbert 1973 pilot Ivor Wood eps 2-6.The pilot episode, alternately known as "The Last of the Summer Wine" and "Of Funerals and Fish," originally premiered on the BBC's Comedy Playhouse on 20 November 1973 at 5:40 p.m. "The Last of the Summer Wine" was the first episode of that show's fourteenth series. The pilot warranted a positive enough that the BBC ordered a full series of episodes which premiered on 12 November 1973.The first series was released on DVD in region 2 as a combined box set with series 2 on 2 September 2002. Sadly, a lot of 'Summer Wine' fans were not only disappointed that the pilot episode hadn't been included, but that edits had been made to some of the episodes. It is hoped sense will prevail and Series 1 and 2 will be re- released, with all the episodes left just as they were originally broadcast, this time including the pilot episode, 'Of Funerals and Fish' in the box set.".
