- Zuma_(album) abstract "Zuma is the seventh studio album by Canadian musician Neil Young, his second with Crazy Horse, released in 1975. Some believe the album was named after Zuma Beach in Malibu[citation needed]; however, it seems more logical that the title comes from Montezuma, as he is featured prominently in the song "Cortez The Killer", and suggested also by the album art.Conversely, the cover art features what appears to be a Seagull perched on the back of a naked female swimmer. At the time of the album's release, there was a secluded clothing-optional beach known locally as "Pirate's Cove". Officially known as Point Dume, the beach was located on the southern end of Zuma Beach.Throughout the 1970's, the local Los Angeles authorities took issue with the practice and, by 1980, had all clothing-optional beaches within The County of Los Angeles outlawed. Pirate's Cove was used as the location for the climax of the 1968 film, "Planet of the Apes", where the character of "Taylor" finds his destiny.Zuma was the first album released after the famed Ditch Trilogy, comprising the albums Time Fades Away, Tonight's the Night, and On the Beach. It has an overall more upbeat atmosphere, with a combination of country-tinged rock acoustics and lumbering hard-rock pieces similar in style to songs on Young's second album, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere. As on the latter album, Young is backed up by Crazy Horse with the late Danny Whitten being replaced by Frank Sampedro.".
