First conceived in 2009, the track was inspired by the love for his wife, Jessica Biel, and his grandparents. It is an eight-minute long new-age wedding reception mid-tempo pop and R&B ballad which is about somebody whose lover is "coming to the realization" that she is his "other half". Timberlake wrote and produced it with Timothy "Timbaland" Mosley and Jerome "J-Roc" Harmon, with additional writing from James Fauntleroy. "Mirrors" was issued as the second single off The 20/20 Experience in February 2013. It went to on to top the Australian Urban, Bulgarian, Croatian, European, Lebanonese, Polish, South African and UK singles charts, as well as peaking at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. The song was also met with positive reviews by critics upon release, and nominated for a Grammy Award and a 2013 Teen Choice Award.
