Although he has been largely lost to history until recently, he made major contributions to the freeing of the slaves during his brief career. Among his accomplishments was pushing the abolitionist movement to more political and aggressive strategies. He set up one of the first highly organized lines for the Underground Railroad and personally freed more slaves (approximately 400) than any other abolitionist.
