George Lyon is a former farmer from the Isle of Bute and previous National Farmers Union of Scotland president. He also negotiated savings in EU staff costs of up to £6.5bn through his work on the reform of staff regulations. George has delivered savings of up to £24m through cuts in MEP expenses and travel, as well as translation costs. Scotland will receive nearly £6bn of investment over the next 7 years as a result of the budget deal.George Lyon is also lead spokesperson for ALDE on the Agriculture Committee and has played a key role in the reform of Europe's Common Agricultural Policy and in ensuring a fair deal for Scottish farmers.George has campaigned successfully on issues including greater EU research spending; EU budget reform to focus on youth unemployment, investment and growth; CAP reform, including measures to protect the natural environment; animal welfare rules and rural fuel costs.. }
