Lorge comes from a large and extended political heritage, his father Gerald D. Lorge was one of the longest serving Wisconsin State Senators and his brother William served as a Wisconsin Representative for 10 years.Lorge was born in New London, Wisconsin. He spent several years studying abroad at European institutions, the Albert Ludwigs Institute and Universitat Freiburg Germany and Lancaster University in England, before returning to complete his degrees at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and Marquette University Law School.
