The race was run over 50 laps of the circuit, and was won by New Zealand driver Bruce McLaren in a Cooper T60.Reims-Gueux had hosted the French Grand Prix since 1957, but in 1962 it was to be held at Rouen-Les-Essarts. So this separate non-championship Formula One event was held instead, and most of the Formula One teams turned up to participate, with only Scuderia Ferrari and Porsche staying away. John Surtees led the race for the first 25 laps before retiring, leaving McLaren and Jack Brabham to duel for the lead, before Brabham was passed by Graham Hill and Innes Ireland.. }
