The service began October 19, 1998, with two trains each way, weekdays only. In November 2009 three trains a day each way began, and four trains a day in September 2012. There are ten stops along the 86 miles (138 km) route; travel time is about 2 hours and 10 minutes end-to-end. The tracks are owned by Union Pacific. ACE uses Bombardier BiLevel Coaches and MPI F40PH-3C locomotives. It is managed by the San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission and operations are contracted to Herzog Transit Services.As of 2008, average weekday ridership is 3,700.
