They brought pepper from Penang, rattan from Singapore, indigo and coffee from Manila, sugar from Pernambuco and Matanzas. Also included in the collection are records of the Boston Sugar Refinery, 1796-1880. Material includes letters, bills, invoices, accounts of sales, and reports. The Boston Sugar Refinery imported sugar from Havana, Manila, Matanzas, and Pernambuco; refined the sugar and sold it in Boston, New Bedford, New York, Philadelphia, Mobile, and San Francisco. Thomas Lamb served as treasurer of the company. Also included are a small number of papers relating to the Provident Institution for Savings, Temple Place Savings Bank, Proprietors of Temple Place, James Clifford and Barrett & Hooper.. }
