The energy efficiency aspect is extremely important in this directive, and important steps have been taken to obtain this goal, especially in building and electric appliance domains. Most residential energy users, however, are not aware of their energy use pattern, and literature demonstrates that the level of energy-efficient behavior in household settings is underresearched. Several studies combine the concept of ‘‘behavior’’ with concepts such as environmental identity, environmental attitude, environmental concern, or the values/orientation individuals have when it comes to aspects of sustainability. Scales do, for example, take parameters such as the recycling of used bottles or donations for ‘‘green’’ organizations into account, but they do not mention behavior concerning heating, ventilation, and electric appliances. This study tries to fill these gaps and ambitions to combine the three parameters—‘‘actual behavior,‘‘ ‘‘energy-efficient use,’’ and ‘‘residential context’’—in one scale, named the Energy-Efficient Behaviour Scale (EEBS). A framework for the scale has been developed based on literature review tested in two large-scale online surveys. Principal component analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and hierarchical confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the theoretical structure of the scale.. }
