Matches in UGent Biblio for { ?s ?p There is a growing interest towards the concept of ‘media literacy’ in various areas of education and the political and academic world. Media literacy is often defined as ‘the ability to access, analyze, evaluate and create messages across a variety of contexts’ (Livingstone, 2004a). Starting from this broad conceptualization of media literacy, this paper gives a review of recent studies on ICT use, which have emphasized the importance of people’s level of literacy with regard to new media technologies and content (Brandtweiner, Donat, & Kerschbaum, 2010). Media literacy is assumed to represent skills, knowledge and attitudes. Recent research suggests that there are other factors in determining people’s level of media literacy. Based on the literature review, a conceptual model is developed in order to clarify the underlying components and factors of media literacy.. }
