- 01JB45JR8MYN6STJEX0EBVH3V3 abstract "The objective of this study was to evaluate benefits of supplementation with an encapsulated butyrate sodium salt (ButNac) derived from fermentation, on the growth performances of post-weaning piglets. In two trials, TopigsNorsvin70 × Piétrain piglets, aged and weaned at 26-28 days of age, were allocated to two dietary treatments: a control feed or the control feed supplemented with 2 kg/t of ButNac for 35 days. In trial 1, the piglets were divided into 20 pens, and the pen was considered the experimental unit. In trial 2, the animals were divided into 6 pens, each equipped with an electronic feeding station and a scale so that each piglet was monitored individually; the piglet was considered the experimental unit. In trial 1, ButNac supplementation was associated with beneficial effects from the first 14 days of the trial. Specifically, ButNac supplementation improved growth (+13.3%, P = 0.041), feed efficiency (-6.0%, P = 0.028) and final weight (+4.3%, P = 0.041) of the piglets. In both trials, over the entire period, ButNac supplementation was associated with a trend towards improved growth (trial 1: +9.1%, P = 0.050; trial 2: +9.5%, P = 0.055), feed intake (trial 1: +6.8%, P = 0.067; trial 2: +7.8%, P = 0.070) and final weight (trial 1: +6.0%, P = 0.050; trial 2: +6.0%, P = 0.055). However, the feed conversion ratio was not impacted. These two trials confirm the effectiveness of a ButNac derived from fermentation to improve the performance of piglets during the post-weaning period.".
