During the war CD-63 was mostly busy on escort duties.On 18 June 1945, in Toyama Bay, the submarine USS Bonefish (SS-223) was sunk by the combined efforts of the escort ships Okinawa, CD-63, CD-75, CD-158 and CD-207.On 10 August 1945 CD-63 struck a mine in Nanao Bay, and was badly damaged.
