In 1990 he was awarded the Constantine E. Maguire Medal for Outstanding Service to the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown, and in 1992, he won the School’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. He is the recipient of Tufts University’s Jean Mayer Global Citizenship Award.Dr. Williams is chair of the Academic Council of the United Nations System (ACUNS), a Member of the Executive Board of the Institute for Global Leadership at Tufts University, and a Board Member of the American Bar Association Africa Council of the Rule of Law Initiative. He was a Member of the International Board of Directors of the United World Colleges, and a Trustee of the Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific, where he gained the International Baccalaureate Diploma. He has published widely on conflict prevention, international peacekeeping, and multilateral negotiations. He holds an M.A. (Honors) in English Language and Literature from Edinburgh University, as well as an M.A.L.D. and a Ph.D. in International Relations from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.. }
