He began his music studies at the Tallinn Music High School in Tiiu Peäske's violin class and continued his studies, violin with Lemmo Erendi and choral conducting with Enn Oja, at the Tallinn Georg Ots Music School.He has been involved at the Estonian Boys Choir for many years as a choir singer and soloist. From 1977 to 1979 he sang the title role of Britten's The Little Sweep at the Estonian National Opera.He graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music in 1993 in Ants Üleoja choral conducting class and in 2003 in Paul Mägi (et)'s and Roman Matsov's orchestra conducting classes. Tiisvald has attended conducting master courses with John Eliot Gardiner and Helmuth Rilling at the Stuttgart Bach-Academie in Germany, furthermore he has participate in several masterclasses led by Joshard Daus, Jorma Panula and Neeme Järvi.From 1992 until 1995, Tiisvald was employed by the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir as a singer, chorus master and conductor. Simultaneously he was lecturing at the Estonian Academy of Music fromn 1992 until 1995. From 1995, Tiisvald has been the assistant conductor of the Estonian National Opera Orchestra and from 1998 to 2009 has been working there as the chief chorus master. In the period 1991 to 2009 he has prepared more than 30 oratorios and about 35 operas, 4 operettas and 6 musicals.Tiisvald has worked with the Tallinn Baroque Orchestra, Pärnu City Ochestra, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, Mixed Choir of Estonian Radio, Estonian National Male Choir, Oratorio Choir and the opera chorus of the Estonian National Opera.Tiisvald has conducted operas, ballets and musicals at the Estonian National Opera and several festivals in Estonia, Russia and Germany.. }
