He was nominated twice for the Eisner Award, which is the comic book industry's equivalent to the Oscar Awards, based on his work entitled The Factor about an unseen superhero. Gertler is also notable for founding in 2004 an annual 24-hour long challenge to cartoonists to produce a "24-page comic book".
