He was traded along with Outfielder Danny Tartabull and Outfielder Mike Kingery to the Royals in exchange for Pitcher Scott Bankhead and Pitcher Steve Shields.Luecken was placed on waivers by the Atlanta Braves in September 1990 after an alcohol-fueled confrontation with then-new Braves manager Bobby Cox about his lack of playing time.
