It is known from a partial skull recovered from rocks of the Santana Formation of the Araripe Basin, dating to Cenomanian stage. It was named by David M. Martill in 2011 and the type species is Unwindia trigonus.The skull length is estimated at 300mm which would indicate a wingspan of over 3 metres. This would make Unwindia the largest member of the Lonchodectidae as well as its first species from the southern hemisphere.. }
