- Priestess_(band) abstract "Priestess is a Canadian rock band formed by singer/guitarist Mikey Heppner in Montreal, Quebec in 2003. Since its inception it has featured Heppner, singer/guitarist Dan Watchorn, singer/drummer Vince Nudo, and bassist Mike Dyball.Priestess emerged from the ashes of the Dropouts, a punk rock band Heppner created only for fun. Three of its members were also members of the Stills, who later moved to New York upon experiencing greater success; left on his own, Heppner gathered three replacements and changed the group's sound, and its name to Priestess, who then signed to independent record label Indica Records. The band's first album, Hello Master, was released in Canada in 2005, following which the group entered into a major-label contract with RCA Records, who released the album outside of Canada. In support of the album the group toured extensively in North America and Europe with many popular acts, including Megadeth, the Sword, and Black Label Society. The single "Lay Down" was included in the popular video game Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, which made it their signature song and expanded their fanbase significantly. The sound of Priestess was quickly noted by reviewers for its considerable classic rock influence, bringing to mind such acts as Black Sabbath and AC/DC; while admirers of those bands, Heppner and the rest of Priestess have vigorously denied the resemblance was intentional. Their sound evolved to include traces of progressive rock, to which Heppner had been a lifelong devotee and which the other band members came to like as well, and with this new sonic palette the group created Prior to the Fire. However, the album was constantly affected by obstructions and setbacks during production; the worst of the problems was that RCA Records did not enjoy the new material and refused to release it for fear that it would not be marketable. In response, the band left RCA, returned to being only on independent record labels and signed to Tee Pee Records instead. After significant delays, Prior to the Fire was released in 2009, and was followed by more rigorous international concert plans, including dates with acts such as High on Fire. The album was well-received but the minor change in style from their debut album was noted for better or for worse, with some preferring their older sound to the newer one.2012 would have been the year for a European tour and a new album, but these were canceled without an apparent reason. The band have yet to issue an official statement on the matter, and their current status is unclear; band members seem to have moved on to other projects for the time being.".

- Priestess_(band) quote ""We just consider ourselves a rock band. Every band is different and we play rock our way. I guess it kind of dwells into heavy metal territory from time to time but I wouldn't go into a room full of 'metalheads' and say, 'Hey, this is my Priestess record, we're a heavy metal band!'"".
