- Shala_(novel) abstract "Shala is a Marathi novel written by Milind Bokil first published in 2003. It is adapted for the theatre as one act play,"Ga Ma Bha Na" by Ruia college, and a film "Humne Jeena Sikh Liya". A Marathi movie based on the novel with the same name has been released in January 2012.It's a story of a group of school boys on the threshold of their teenage years in a little Indian school, gather in their beloved adda to deliberate the every day of school-life. The story revolves around the midst of The Emergency Period (Anushasan Parv as mentioned in the book and term given by Vinoba Bhave) of India in a 1970's Dombivli. The lead character of the novel is Mukund Joshi studying in 9th standard. Other main characters are his three friends Surya, chitre & Favdya, Shirodkar( a girl on whom he has a crush), his uncle(Narumama), Appa(school headmaster)& their Favourite Sir Manjarekar Sir who is a teacher of Social Science & thinks that social science need is the most important subject to be taught to students other subjects are just waste of time. The novel deals with how Mukund Joshi tries to impress her in a secretive manner.The novel proceeds in a comic way and succeeds in grabbing the attention of reader from start to end .During this course, Narumama acts as his cupid, he is English teacher in his village college & always guide makrand.It seems that he has won the heart of Shirodkar but at the end of the year, Mukund and his friends are accused of misbehaving with a schoolgirl and are punished. Though Mukund is not guilty, his impression downgrades as he is portrayed as accomplice by the schoolgirl's parents. On the result day of 9th standard, Mukund comes to know that Shirodkar has left the village because of her father's transfer. One of his friends fails and leave school, one friend stays in 9th class because of failure.
