- catalog description "Public health official, Democratic Party worker, and lawyer, Blizard received a B.S. Ed. in 1940 and an Ed.M in 1941 from the Teachers' College of the City of Boston, a M.P.H. in 1943 from M.I.T., and a J.D. from Suffolk University in 1963. She was active in the Democratic Party at the town, state, and national level; she ran unsuccessfully for state senator in 1956, served on the Democratic Town Committee of Norwood, was director of the Massachusetts Federation of Democratic Women's Clubs, president and vice-president of the Massachusetts Democratic Women on Wheels (WOW), and active in the Norwood League of Women Voters. In the public health field, Blizard was Education Coordinator in the Boston Health Department, 1943-1945 and 1946-1947, Chief Coordinator of Health Education for Massachusetts, 1950-1956, and Administrative and Legal Assistant to the Commissioner of Public Health beginning in 1965. Blizard filed a charge of discrimination based on sex and age when she was denied promotion in 1972. The case was decided against her in 1979 and she retired shortly thereafter. She died of cancer in 1985.".
