The name change in 1993 was due to the primary school across the road, Primrose Hill Primary School, having a similar name to the high school. For safety reasons, such as in case of a fire, they changed the name to cause less confusion between the two schools.In 2010 plans were announced to merge Baverstock School and Kings Norton High School on the current site on KNHS to form and new 1000 pupils school. Although a Statement of Intent was signed by Michael Gove the Secretary of State for Education to begin the project, this was later withdrawn.
