Its leaves are 0.6 to 2 cm long and 0.1 to 0.5 cm wide. From late winter into spring it produces yellow pea flowers with a red-orange band around a yellow centre and bright yellow wings and keel. The species was first formally described by Étienne Pierre Ventenat in 1803 in Jardin de la Malmaison and was assigned the name Pultenaea ericoides. In 1832, the species was transferred into the genus Aotus.It occurs in heathland and dry sclerophyll forests in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania.. }
