A graduate of Cambridge High School and Ohio Wesleyan University, he was the son of Frank Dollison, editor of The Jeffersonian. Dollison became manager of industries at Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary on July 12, 1954, and would work at Alcatraz for 9 years until the institution closed in March 21 1963. Along with Richard J. Willard he was further promoted to be the last Associate Warden of Alcatraz under Olin G. Blackwell from 1961. During his term as Associate Warden he was involved in the investigation into the June 1962 escape from Alcatraz; he was acting warden at the time of the escape due to Blackwell being on vacation.
