She was raised in Columbia, growing up in the same community in which she lives today. She and her siblings were educated in Richland County School District Two schools. After graduating from Richland Northeast High School, Beth earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia in 1991 and earned a law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1994. Upon graduating from law school, she began practicing law with her father and brother, Lowell Bernstein, and formed what is now known as Bernstein and Bernstein, LLC. Beth has been a lifelong volunteer in her community. These values were instilled in Beth by her parents, who were both politically and civically active in Columbia before their passing. Beth currently serves on the Palmetto Health Foundation Cancer Center Board and is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Columbia. Most recently, she was selected to participate in the Liberty Fellowship class of 2015, and she was named Business Monthly’s 50 Most Influential People in 2012. She is Past President of the Richland County Bar Association and has previously served on the following boards: Three Rivers Heritage and Music Foundation, Columbia Jewish Federation, Beth Shalom Synagogue, the Columbia Jewish Day School, and the South Carolina Philharmonic. She is a 1998 Graduate of Leadership Columbia, and in 2006, she was selected as one of Columbia’s Top “20 under 40.”Beth is married to Rip Sanders, who also practices law with her, and they are the parents of two daughters, Caroline, 9, and Isabel, 5.Bernstein is a Democratic member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, serving since November 2012.
