It is the 64th tallest building in New York City, standing at 628 feet (191 m) tall.In 1987, during the construction of Central Park Place, a piece of lumber was dislodged from one of the higher floors during wind storm and hit a 37 year old man in the head while he was walking on the east side of 8th Avenue opposite the building. He sustained massive brain trauma and died. The City of New York halted construction to investigate the incident. The builder, losing money because of the work stoppage, sued the city. The consequence of this tragedy was a new requirement that all tall building construction projects were required to place netting over any open areas to prevent the accidental loss of debris from the higher floors.. }
