He succeeded his father in 1547 and began the building of Christchurch Mansion on previously monastic land at Ipswich acquired by his father.He was elected a Member of Parliament (MP) for Ipswich in 1558. He sat on the bench as a Justice of the Peace for Suffolk form 1561 to his death and was appointed High Sheriff of Suffolk for 1570–71.He married, c. 1535, Elizabeth Hynde.
