He was in private practice in New York City from 1930 to 1941. He served as a colonel in the United States Army during World War II, from 1942 to 1945. He returned to private practice in New York City from 1946 to 1962. On July 5, 1962, Wyatt was nominated by President John F. Kennedy to a new seat on the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York created by 75 Stat. 80. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on September 20, 1962, and received his commission on September 28, 1962.
