- Alejandro_Romualdo abstract "Alejandro Romualdo (December 19, 1926 Trujillo, Peru – May 27, 2008 Lima, Peru) is a Peruvian poet of the 20th century. His best known work is the Song of Tupac Amaru, exalting the revolutionary spirit of that 18th century leader. This poem won a Peruvian National Prize for Poetry in 1997. It glorifies the Peruvian independence movement. He studied literature at the National University of San Marcos in 1946 and then at the University of Madrid in 1951. Before even completing his studies, he was already the recipient of the National Prize for Poetry in 1949.Romualdo was found dead in his home on 27 May 2008 in San Isidro District, Lima, Peru. His niece, who reported the event on the radio, expressed concerns for the causes of his death, insinuating he could have been murdered. The state of the poet's room, however, would point to the fact that he died of natural causes. Investigations are under way.".
