The betalains in stem bark of A. spinosuswere identified as amaranthin, isoamaranthine,hydroxycinnamates, rutin, quercetin and kaempferolglycosides[7,8]. It also contains amaranthoside, a lignanglycoside, amaricin, a coumaroyl adenosine along withstigmasterol glycoside. Betalains are well known for theirantioxidant, anticancer, antiviral and antiparasitosisproperties[9].The whole plant of A. spinosus is used for the treatmentof fever in traditional system of medicine. However, thereis lack of scientific report regarding antipyretic activityof A. spinosus, thus this study aims to provide scientificvalidation for traditional uses and additionally antioxidantactivity was also studied.".
