Through her work on Hip Mama, Gore is widely credited with launching maternal feminism and the contemporary mothers' movement. She is a graduate of Mills College and the University of California at Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. Gore has a daughter, Maia Swift, born February 7, 1990, and a son, Maximilian Gore-Perez, born August 26, 2007. She has taught at The Attic Institute in Portland, Oregon, at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, and at the Institute for American Indian Arts in Santa Fe.
