- BOHICA_Blues abstract "BOHICA Blues is a webcomic written and illustrated by CF Grant. The webcomic serializes the experiences of a fictional United States Army Reserve unit from Boise, Idaho. CF Grant served as an Army Reserve Combat Engineer during a deployment to Iraq in 2004-2005. The story of the webcomic starts in the year 2064, where an elderly couple, presumably veterans of the war, are telling their grandkids what happened during their involvement in the Iraq War. After the introduction, the story takes place as a flashback, starting in late 2003. The Battalion they served in, the 213th Combat Engineers, is entirely fictional but based on actual Reserve battalions, and the events in the story closely mirror the experiences of the author and those he served with as they were mobilized. The 213th Battalion's adventures begin in their home station of Boise, Idaho, but quickly move to Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, and then on to Fort Hood, Texas, Kuwait, and eventually to Iraq. The webcomic started on November 11, 2013, coinciding with a Veterans Day launch."BOHICA" is an acronym, military slang that means "Bend Over, Here It Comes Again" and is meant to represent a continual series of bad luck and hardships that affect the lives of everyday soldiers, frequently as a result of poor leadership decisions. While the term originally had connotations of sodomy, CF Grant prefers to keep the BOHICA Blues webcomic family-friendly, and interprets the acronym as "bending over for another kick in the rear", to which a soldier becomes inured to after enduring so many.".
