- Baguiati abstract "Baguiati lies off the Kazi Nazrul Islam Sarani, popularly known as VIP Road, in the north-eastern periphery of Kolkata city, in the Indian state of West Bengal. Baguiati in the past few decades has been developing into an important commercial and trade centre. Krishnapur (more popularly known as Kestopur), Dum Dum and Salt Lake and newtown megacity are the nearby areas of Baguiati. Dum-Dum Park near Baguiati boasts of having top 2 pandals of the city during Durga Puja i.e., Bharat Chakra and Tarun Dal. This place is said to be named after Bagui's, surname of the native residents of this place. During 1950 the Martin Burn company put-up a rail line form Patipukur, Milk colony to Taki (their Capital) via Dumdum Park-Rajarhat-Khoiberia-Belgachia-Basirhat. During that time they wanted to acquire a pice of Land for Station and Pond (to fill water in steam engine) and approach the Bagui family. The family agreed to give the land on condition that the station should be named in memory of their contribution. The land wanted to be acquired is called "Ati", which is a special Bengali word which means high land, not suitable for agriculture, mainly used for farming. Thus the station built for a narrow gage rail line on the "ati" land of Bagui family is named as "Baguiati". The rail stop functioning after few year. But still date the "Rail Pukur" is there beyod the PWD building at Baguiati crossing. The flyover from dumdum park to teghoria along the vip road is under construction which will help to keep the traffic congetion away from baguiati.A good number of small enterprises exist in the region of Baguiati. These enterprises primarily deal with the import and export of small articles of jute, electronics, watch manufacturing, polyware manufacturing, medical equipment suppliers, etc. The township is provided with a number of educational institutes and health care institutes . It also has a dedicated police station under the jurisdiction of the bidhannagar city police. The region forms one of the many residential places in the city. The population levels have been constantly increasing, as has been observed in the rest of the city. This area became very congested now. Population is the responsible reason to destroy the social ecology and creating severe imbalance for the place. Nearby malls include city centre newtown, bigbazar, bazar kolkata.".
