- CSU_Asesoft_Ploiești abstract "CSU Asesoft is a Romanian professional basketball club, based in Ploiești, Romania. The club competes in the Romanian Basketball Division A, and is the most successful club of the last decade, winning seven consecutive championships between 2004–2010 and six Romanian cups. In 2005, the team won FIBA EuroCup Challenge.Few teams have dominated their domestic competitions in recent years like CSU Asesoft, the perennial Romanian League champion. Now the club returns to the Eurocup more than five years after its debut season in the competition looking to make a splash. Ploiesti has won nine Romanian League titles in 10 years and is undeniably the team to beat in its country. Founded in 1998, Ploiesti started a revolution in Romanian basketball once it overcame financial problems in its early years. It was not until 2001 that the team started to soar; it reached the Romanian League finals that year before losing against West Petrom. Ploiesti soon established itself as an emerging power, reaching the Romanian League semifinals in 2002 and 2003. Ploiesti had to wait until the 2003-04 season to make its debut in European competitions in the 2004 FIBA EuroCup Challenge. Few could think, however, that the best was yet to come, as Ploiesti was about to make history. With players like Nicolae Toader, Milojica Zekovic and Vladimir Arnautovic leading the charge, Ploiesti downed Dinamo Erbasu Bucuresti to win its first Romanian League title. Ploiesti then became the first Romanian team to win a European title, the 2005 FIBA EuroCup Challenge. The club survived a tough group stage and beat Boncourt and Banvit in a second group stage to meet Lokomotiv Rostov in the title game at home. Vladimir Kuzmanovic sent a whole city to celebrate when he hit the game-winning free throws with 8 seconds left as Ploiesti beat Lokomotiv 75-74 in thrilling fashion. Kuzmanovic led his team with 28 points on 6-of-7 three-point shooting. Its first Eurocup experience came in 2007-08. With center Rashard Griffith and sharp shooter Arvydas Cepulis as its main references, CSU Asesoft did not go past the regular season despite wins over Spirou Charleroi and eventual finalist Akasvayu Girona. The team has also been to the EuroChallenge three times since its first Eurocup appearance and gained valuable experience. Back at home, Ploiesti has been rolling, even barely losing games some years, to conquer nine Romanian League titles in the last decade. Last season, Ploiesti was third at the end of the regular season, but still managed to win the title by downing Targu Mures in the playoffs behind an outstanding Alhaji Mohammed. Expect Ploiesti to be competitive and ready this season, especially in front of its fans.".
