- Dishu_system abstract "Dishu was an important legal and moral system involving marriage and inheritance in ancient East Asia. Under this system, a man's official wife was called a Zhenshi (正室, pronounced Seishitsu in Japanese) and her son was called the Di son (Chinese: 嫡子). A concubine's son was called the Shu (Chinese: 庶子) son and his status was much lower than the Di son. Tang dynasty law in China prescribed that if a Di son died, his son should be the family successor; if a Di grandson could not be found, the Di son's half-brother born by Zhenshi should be the successor. After that, a Shu son could be considered. The Tang law also prescribed that a man demoted former Zhenshi to concubine without good cause would be sentenced to two years and regarding concubine (or even maid in some cases) as a wife for a year and a half.During most of the imperial era in China, a man could not divorce a Zhenshi until she had committed "Seven Crimes". But after the Song Dynasty, the status difference between wife and concubine or Di son and Shu son reduced.".
