- Dixie_Marshall abstract "Dixie Marshall was previously a news presenter for Nine News Perth. She held the position from 2002 until 2011 despite low ratings, although she has been with the Nine Network since 1984, and previously worked for The Australian Newspaper and Radio 6PR.Dixie was one of the first female sports reporters in Australian television, and while working at Seven News in Melbourne, won awards for covering AFL football, the 1988 Seoul Olympics, international golf, tennis and basketball. She occasionally co-hosted Sportsworld with Bruce McAvaney. She returned to Perth in 1993 and joined Nine News as a senior reporter, then later became weekend presenter. In 2003, Dixie and Sonia Vinci became Australia's first duo team of female news presenters, initially on a temporary basis, but it was later made permanent. This rocky partnership lasted for 5 years, before her partner Vinci left and was replaced by former Ten News presenter and ABC early morning regional announcer Greg Pearce in 2008. She was also involved in Nine's Appealathon and other charity events at the station and was a paidMC at events she was booked for.Marshall is a daughter of former Western Australian Liberal backbencher and tennis school chief Arthur Marshall.Dixie attended Presbyterian Ladies' College in Perth, Western Australia. In May 2011, after her contract was due for renewal, Marshall resigned from the Nine Network, claiming she wanted to spend more time with her family. She took up a full-time Public Service position with the State Government a week later.Marshall is currently the Director of Government Media in the Liberal Government of Colin Barnett. She has controversially granted a pay rise in her role as government media adviser, up $84,534 to $245,000 whilst Colin Barnett and Treasurer Troy Buswell called for cost cutting across the public sector. The pay rise has angered backbenchers who also have problems with her foul language.".
