- Edward_D._Dart abstract "Edward Dupaquier Dart, FAIA (1922–July 9, 1975) was a Mid-Century modern architect.Dart was born in New Orleans to parents of French descent. He graduated from Yale School of Architecture in 1949. Richard M. Bennett was chairman of the Department of Architecture as well as a professor of design during Dart's studies. Dart also studied at Yale under Pietro Belluschi, Marcel Breuer, Richard Neutra, Louis Kahn, Eero Saarinen, Harold Spitznagel, and Paul Schweikher.One of Chicago's most distinguished architects, he was made a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects at age 44 and garnered 18 AIA awards. He designed 52 custom houses from 1949 to 1968, 26 custom churches, and many commercial buildings. The notable buildings he designed include: St. Augustine's Episcopal Church in Gary,Indiana; Pick-Staiger Concert Hall Northwestern University, Norris University Center Northwestern University, St. Procopius Abbey and Monastery in Lisle, Illinois; and Water Tower Place on Chicago's Magnificent Mile.Dart died of an aneurysm in 1975 while completing Water Tower Place. The Art Institute of Chicago Ryerson and Burnham Archives at Ryerson and Burnham Libraries house a permanent collection of his works donated in 1999 by his sister Susan.".
