- Flieger abstract "Flieger (English translation: "Flyers") was the German entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1989, performed in German by Italian singer Nino de Angelo. In 1984 de Angelo had had his breakthrough with "Jenseits von Eden"/"La valle del Eden"/"Guardian Angel", a #1 hit in West Germany and Switzerland and a Top 10 in most other parts of Continental Europe and Scandinavia. "Flieger" was composed by Dieter Bohlen, internationally best known as one half of the very successful German Europop duo Modern Talking. The song was performed twenty-first on the night (following Iceland's Daníel Ágúst with "Það Sem Enginn Ser" and preceding Yugoslavia's Riva with "Rock Me"). At the close of voting, it had received 46 points, placing 14th in a field of 22.The song is a ballad, with de Angelo expressing his desire to return to a past time when he and a lover were together - a period he likens to flying through the sky. De Angelo also recorded the song in English, then entitled "If There's One Thing That's Forever".It was succeeded as German representative at the 1990 Contest by Chris Kempers & Daniel Kovac with "Frei Zu Leben".".
