- Flying_Kukris abstract "The Flying Kukris are a youth (aged 6 to 18) rugby union club based in Hong Kong.The name was derived from the helicopters of RAF 28 Squadron - hence the 'Flying', and the Ghurkhas soldiers' a traditional Nepalese knife - the 'Kukri'. It was first started for the British military who were based at the RAF Sek Kong. Training takes place at their HKIEd Sports Centre ground in the New Territories from on Sundays between September and April. Minis (aged under 12) participate in occasional local tournaments and the Colts participate in the HKRFU-run League. The Club offers players to the HKRFU for consideration for national selection. Some U12 and above players compete in the annual New Years Day Peninsula v Island matches. Colts players compete for seven-a-side places representing Peninsula on the Saturday of the Sevens weekend.In August 2010, the Flying Kukris introduced a U18B team with a small core of die-hards from the successful 2009-10 U16B team. To build out number, the U18B will be working with TSW Eagles.In late 2010, the Flying Kukris have an agreement with the Nomads RFC; allowing FK to benefit from the senior experience of the Nomads and bringing 2 Nomads coaches in to support the Girls Colts and U18B.With the start of the August 2011 season, the Flying Kukris sponsors changed to Schneider Electric, Universal, Hyatt Regency ShaTin and Ball. Colts age banding in HK was modified such that the U18 became U19; for the first time in over a decade, FK had its own U19B squad. The relationship with TSW to support other age groups continued.
