- Giuseppe_Macario abstract "Giuseppe Macario (Italian pronunciation: [dʒuˈzɛppe maˈkarjo]; born 1981) is a social entrepreneur in the nonprofit sector and computer programmer from Rome, Italy. Supported by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, he made use of a number of techniques to exploit Oracle technologies in agriculture by means of simulations carried out in virtual worlds. Under the auspices of the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, Macario conducted the Italian experiment of social entrepreneurship in Second Life, focusing on the fields of virtual worlds and virtual economies. Before receiving a Master of Science from Middlesex University, he was the first Italian computer programmer to set two world records by solving problems of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest, and to promote the use of social networks (namely Facebook, LinkedIn and Second Life) in the agricultural sector. In Second Life he runs a bilingual Italian/English independent news agency, whose areas of interest include freedom of speech in Italy and the preservation of Italy's artistic and natural heritage. The agency also used to translate Reuters Second Life bureau's news into Italian, until the bureau shut down in March 2009.".
